Sailor.Tex was born from the desire of its founder Matteo Italo Ratti in 1992 in Domaso, a small town on Lake Como. With its debut, the Company owned small sailboats with mobile leeway.

Over the years the Company expanded and acquired importance, reaching the Italian seas with the first sailboat. Ever since then, plenty of miles have been covered!

Sailor.Tex currently owns a fleet of sailboats up to 16 metres in length, all fitted with very high standards in terms of quality and safety.

A fleet of excellence, that has chosen its main nautical base in the best tourist port of Italy: Marina Cala de’ Medici, easy to reach by car and by plane (the Pisa airport is just 44 km’s away and the motorway exit of the A12/E80 for Rosignano is just a few kilometres away), with a territory to hand representing a city of art, natural historical beauty and food and wine tourism that the whole world envies (just think of cities of art such as Pisa, Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena). Furthermore, Cala de’ Medici is located in the heart of the beautiful Tuscan archipelago, on the border between the Mar Ligure and the Northern Tyrrhenian.

Its base within the tourist port of Rosignano represents one of the strong points of Sailor.tex, as it represents the ideal starting point to visit Isola d’Elba, Capraia and the Gorgona island, but not only. Corsica is just 18 miles away from Capraia, the closest place to the island in all of Italy.

A lover of sailing, he began his nautical experience at the Centro Velico Caprera as a child. He participated in all of the courses, starting off as a student and subsequently becoming an instructor, he decided to engage in sports activities and managed to win the Italian title of Laser 2, a class for which he also worked as secretary in the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV).

With the intention of transforming his passion into his job, in 2002 he started charter activities on Lake Como with the Sporting Club Domaso, renting out a historical Mini-Tonn-Rivetto. In 2003 he landed in Viareggion with the first keelboat, a Bavaria 41. Ever since then his experience, just like his fleet increased and became an entrepreneurial reality on an international level. Matteo still continues his activities backed by a staff of professionals and has also been elected Manager of Marina Cala de’ Medici.

Since 2013 he has been involved in voluntary projects in the field of ports and marina including Assomarinas. In 2014 he was nominated in the Board of the Boating and Ports Technological District of the Tuscany Region. He was nominated as President of Confindustria Livorno, Massa and Carrara for the Shipbuilding and Nautical section. In 2016 he was elected Counselor of the Governing Board of Nautica Italiana, an association representing the most important “Made in Italy” shipyards in the world. Since 2017 he has been a leader of a team of the “Marinas Consulting” consultants (mettere link al sito), an association that deals with services related to the construction and management of ports and marinas.

In 2018, once again in the Italian Sailing Association, he was nominated Vice President, delegated for Legislation, Marine and Services.
